Meaning:
Joe's thoughts on the song: Rise was co-written with Jason Morgan. It's one of the few kick-your-ass
songs on Safe Unless. It's basically his baby, so i'm going to let HIM talk about it:
The verses are basically me telling my dad about the way that I felt, the emotions that I bore,
the complete and utter confusion about the way that I was being treated, during the time that I lived with him. He was always
talking about crossing lines and looking at myself in the mirror without ever telling me exactly why those lines were there
or what i was looking for in the mirror. The chorus is my way of saying to my father and all of the people who were my friends
when I decided to take up music (all of whom, my father included, thought it was a complete waste of time and energy, and
made it a point to remind me almost daily), no matter what you say, no matter what you do, I will turn this into something.
And to all those people: Hey, look at me now! :)-
**fun swim fact: Rise was tracked in ONE take. everything on the song was recorded on our first
take, live and together, except the vocals.
