Meaning:

Joe's thoughts on the song: soldiers is a heavier song. (heavier meaning loud and mean.) this song is pretty much in the same vein that Rise is. at least the second half is... the rest has a little more embroidery. i'll leave the first half completely open to interpretation. Soldiers are the people who will tell you you're crazy for following your dreams. "don't you know how many people have wasted away their lives with this band thing??" how many people have "wasted away" their lives expressing themselves, only to wind up helping and affecting tens of thousands of people with songs, poetry, art, stories, etc.? i would much rather be starving and happy with what i'm doing than bored and numb with a TV dinner. (not that a TV dinner wouldn't be nice occasionally... i am kind of hungry.
