Meaning:

Joe's thoughts on the song: Bed of Ashes is a rant about meaning and music. I salvaged some lyrics from "July" to complete the song. (we're no longer playing July) The "clanking machines" described in verse one represent the depressing, soulless, predictable side of the music industry (and of the world for that matter). While worrying about contracts and money, it's easy to lose sight of the reason we started doing this in the first place- to affect people, to share feelings, thoughts, et cetera. I suppose the Bed of Ashes represents the loss of that purpose.
